Founded by Mrs Olanike Alao, Waakei was birthed out of a lifelong passion for bespoke and fusion food. What started out as a family-based business in 2006 has now grown into a popular and well-sorted-after brand over the span of the last 14 years. Comprised of a small close team, Waakei has been catering to private clients, shops and businesses. The business has flourished and grown into a reputable and trusted catering service; Waakei endeavors to infuse the authentic taste of Africa into the wide range of appetisers, desserts, snacks, party foods and meals provided by us.
Waakei's signature pies have graced the the tables of family kitchen table to big corporate events. We have been providing service to corporate events, weddings and private parties in London and the UK. With a conviction of excellence and love for great food, through word of mouth, Waakei has cultivated a growing reputation over the last ten years for delivering tasty food and impeccable service.
Waakei believes in using the best level of ingredients to create the best tasting experience, so we use seasonal ingredients locally sourced from independent suppliers.
Waakei in Yoruba is a colloquial slang meaning something is so moorish the temptation to eat more is inevitable hence you are free to eat as much as you like.
This name was inspired by customer compliments like “it’s very tasty” “pastry melts in the mouth”, helping choose the most optimal name in the early days of the business.
